Ten Steps of Freedom

1. Recognize  –  Recognize the breech with God that you never recognized before.  Recognize that you have a problem.  Denial is delusional thinking.  Learn to discern the presence of evil.  (Isaiah 5:13; Hosea 4:6; Hebrews 5:14; 1 John 1:8)

2. Responsibility  –  Take responsibility for the action.  Don’t make excuses.  Your sin is not only against yourself or another; it is primarily against God.  Acknowledge that sin exists and have a willingness to change. David took responsibility (Read Psalm 51)  (Ps. 31:4,10; Ps. 41:4; Ps. 51:4)

Proverbs 28:13  –  “He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.” (KJV)

3. Repent  –  Change your mind.  Come out of agreement with wrong.  (Ps. 32:5; 2 Cor. 7:10; Acts 8:22; Acts 3:19; 1 John 1:9)

Acts 3:19  –  “Repent and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out.”

1 John 1:9  –  “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

4. Receive –  Once you have repented, take the time to receive the Holy Spirit’s forgiveness and comfort. (Acts 3:19; 10:43; 26:18)

5. Renounce –  Reject sin.  Make sin your enemy.  Exercise your authority and dominion.  This is often one of the hardest parts. (1 Cor. 10:20-21; 2 Cor. 4:2)

1 Cor. 10:20-21  –   “I do not want you to have fellowship with demons.  You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the Lord's Table and of the table of demons.”

2 Cor. 4:2 – “But we have renounced the hidden thing of shame.”

6. Remove  –  Give God back the ground and kick anti-Christian spiritual influence out.  Choose to sin no more.  Don’t cohabit with the enemy. (Gen. 3:11, 14; Eph. 4:27; 1 Tim. 5:14; Eze. 28:16-18; Romans 7:15-22; 1 Tim. 2:26; Heb. 4:12; Matt. 8:16; Matt10:1,7; Mark 6:12; Luke 10:1; Ps. 119:28,29)

Ex. 18:30-31  –  “Repent, and turn from all your transgressions, so that iniquity will not be your ruin.  Cast away from you all the transgressions, which you have committed, and get yourselves a new heart and a new spirit for why should you die.”

7. Resist  –  Walk in victory; the enemy will try to re-enter; submit to God.  Know the areas that developed into a habit and stay away from those things. (James 4:7; 1 Cor. 10:13; Romans 10:8; 1 Cor. 11:1; James 2:20,24; 1 Peter 3:15)

James 4:7  –  “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”

2 Cor. 10:  10:3-6  –  “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh.  For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.”

Put His Word IN…Romans 10:8
Put His Word ON…1 Cor. 11:1; James 2:20, 24
Put His Word OUT…1 Peter3:15

8. Rejoice  –  You are Free!  Thank God.  Praise and Thanksgiving.  (Isaiah 35; Rev. 19:7; Ps. 45:13)

Isa. 35:3-10  –  “Strengthen the weak hands, and make firm the feeble knees.  Say to those who are fearful-hearted, "Be strong, do not fear! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, with the recompense of God; He will come and save you."  Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped.  Then the lame shall leap like a deer, And the tongue of the dumb sing. For waters shall burst forth in the wilderness, and streams in the desert.  The parched ground shall become a pool, and the thirsty land springs of water; in the habitation of jackals, where each lay, there shall be grass with reeds and rushes.  A highway shall be there, and a road, And it shall be called the Highway of Holiness. The unclean shall not pass over it, but it shall be for others. Whoever walks the road, although a fool, Shall not go astray.  No lion shall be there, Nor shall any ravenous beast go up on it; It shall not be found there. But the redeemed shall walk there, and the ransomed of the LORD shall return, and come to Zion with singing, with everlasting joy on their heads. They shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.”

9. Restore  –  Restore Others.  Bring the same to others.  Take what is given to you and, like a river, let it flow from and through you to others. (Matt. 10:7,8; Gal. 6:1; Ps. 51:13; Isaiah 42:22).

Isa. 42:22  –  “But this is a people robbed and plundered; All of them are snared in holes, And they are hidden in prison houses; They are for prey, and no one delivers; For plunder, and no one says, ‘Restore!’”
Ps. 51:1-19  –  “Have mercy upon me, O God, According to Your loving kindness; According to the multitude of Your tender mercies, Blot out my transgressions.  Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, And cleanse me from my sin.  For I acknowledge my transgressions, and my sin is always before me.  Against You, You only, have I sinned, and done this evil in Your sight; That You may be found just when You speak, And blameless when You judge.  Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin my mother conceived me.  Behold, You desire truth in the inward parts, and in the hidden part You will make me to know wisdom.  Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.  Make me hear joy and gladness, that the bones You have broken may rejoice.  Hide Your face from my sins, And blot out all my iniquities.  Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.  Do not cast me away from Your presence, And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.   Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, And uphold me by Your generous Spirit.  Then I will teach transgressors Your ways, And sinners shall be converted to You.  Deliver me from the guilt of bloodshed, O God, The God of my salvation, And my tongue shall sing aloud of Your righteousness.  O Lord, open my lips, And my mouth shall show forth Your praise.  For You do not desire sacrifice, or else I would give it; You do not delight in burnt offering.  The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, A broken and a contrite heart; These, O God, You will not despise.  Do good in Your good pleasure to Zion; Build the walls of Jerusalem.  Then You shall be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, With burnt offering and whole burnt offering; Then they shall offer bulls on Your altar.”

Matt. 10:7-8  –  “And as you go, preach, saying, 'The kingdom of heaven is at hand.'  “Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.”

10. Rely –  We must rely on God for this to happen.  To do this, we have to be a born again believer, stick to His Word, and practice spiritual disciplines.  (1 Cor. 2:14; Zech. 4:6; Eph. 6:10)

1 Cor. 2:14 – “A natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God; for they are foolishness to him and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised.  But he who is spiritual appraises all things…we have the mind of Christ.”
