2 CHRONICLES 7:14-16
14. If my people, which are called by
my name, will humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from
their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their
sin, and will heal their land.
15. Now mine eyes shall be open,
and mine ears attent unto the prayer that is made in this place.
16. For now have I chosen and sanctified this house, that my name may be
there for ever: and mine eyes and mine heart shall be there perpetually.
Let's take a close look at this Scripture. Who are God's people which are called by His name? Is not the Church called by His name? Are we not His house (v.16) which is the temple of the Holy Spirit. Is not the Church made up of living stones which are built together as an habitation of God through the Spirit? Is not the Church a house of prayer for all nations which has been sanctified through the Spirit? We must answer, Yes! In every case, Yes!
The eyes of our Lord Jesus are
upon us as we humble ourselves with fasting. He sees us when we turn from
everything wicked. His ears are attending to our prayers, our supplications,
and our intercession. He has chosen us and sanctified us so that His name,
His eyes, and His heart are with us always. When we come together in His
name, He is with us because He desires to be with us.
Now let us take a look at the
words, "seek my face." What does it mean to you to seek God's face?
Think of the different ways you know God and He knows you. God revealed
His name to Moses as Yahweh, or the four Hebrew letters represented by
YHWH, translated as LORD in the Old Testament. This is sometimes translated:
"I AM." The face of God is represented by His name and by His character.
Let's look at some examples which
will help us "seek His face." We know Him as Creator who reveals Himself
through His creation. We "seek the face" of our Creator, the one who called
us into being and who has known us from before the foundation of the world.
Then we come to know Him as Savior,
Jesus, the Lamb who was slain so we could live forever. We "seek the face"
of our loving Savior who loved us so much that He gave His life for us
on the cross.
After meeting Him as Savior,
we come to know Him as Lord, Master, and King. He rules and has all authority
in heaven and on earth. We learn to follow and obey Him as we grow in our
love for Him. We "seek the face" of our King, our Lord and Master and we
give ourselves loyally into His service. We become willing to give our
life for Him!
Then there comes that tender
time where we meet Him as our Father who welcomes us home as one of His
children. We "seek the face" of our loving Father who heals us, accepts
us, and forgives us. He puts in us His love for His lost children and we
willingly go out looking for our lost brothers and sisters so that they
can come home and know the love we have come to know. We are in His family
forever!
As we grow and mature and become
more like Jesus, we begin to faintly see the face of Jesus, our Bridegroom.
He captures our heart as we "seek His face" as our Bridegroom. We grow
in His love as a part of His Bride who makes herself ready. Our love for
the Church, His Bride, grows in depth and we desire to be found clean,
holy, pure - without spot or wrinkle or blemish! We, His church, are dressed
in fine linen awaiting the marriage supper of the Lamb! (Read Revelation
19:6-9.)
Yes, we "seek His face" in all
these ways. He desires to see us with His eyes and to hear us with His
ears. His heart is with us always. He loves us. When we turn to Him, He
desires to forgive us and heal us. His love compels us to turn away from
every wicked way and to come running to Him. The fire of His love burns
in our hearts as we pour out our love for Him and for one another. As we
"seek His face" we are filled with His mercy, grace, and love! We will
never be the same.
WHAT WILL YOU DO?
Where do you live most of the time? You have been taken out of death into life, quickened, raised up and seated with Him in heavenly places. Do you live in His presence? Have you come to that place where your continual desire is to be with Him? In His presence is fullness of joy. We have been called to be people of His presence. His presence is with us where only two or three of us come together in His name. One of His names is The LORD who is there! (Ezekiel 48:35) Are you aware of Him wherever you go and whatever you do? Is He welcome at all times? He wants to be with you perpetually. His eyes and His heart are with you and He is attentive to your every prayer.
Will you be a part of the coming
revival? Perhaps you will be one of those who will set aside time for fasting
and prayer. You may even be able to fast for forty days. Many have already
completed a forty day fast and are continuing to pray for revival. In Ezekiel
22:30 we read:
"And I sought for a man among them, that
should make up the hedge,
and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none."
The Lord is calling many to "stand in the gap" before him for both the Church and the nation. Perhaps He is calling you to take the place of an intercessor - to be a watchman.
