HEARTS  FOR  THE  HARVEST  Street Stories 4

Dear Brothers & Sisters in our Father’s Forever Family:

     Mercy, grace, and peace to you!  It is a great joy to write you again and share some testimonies and photos with you from our summer time on the streets of Portland, Oregon.  The above picture is a photo of Pat, a mailman who sometimes joins us, delivering a message to a Hare Krishna follower in front of the courthouse.

    This summer we played worship tapes on the street corner while we handed out tracts and prayed with people.  This seemed to help keep us more focused on Jesus and His presence.  We did have some strange things happen because of this.  One time a “gutter punk” girl took out our worship tape and put in her “Nine Inch Nails” tape.  We calmly and kindly gave her tape back and replaced it with more worship music.  Later this same girl took some tracts.  

     You can see Karen’s tract suitcase which sits on a small camp stool.  The young people like to get tracts from her and share them with their friends.  Some days we could see many different young people all around the U.S. Pioneer Courthouse reading tracts and exchanging them with one another.  Most of them have very little to do but “hang” with one another and panhandle for money.

    Some of the young folks hanging out along the wall in front of Pioneer Courthouse.  You might notice Marty Kennedy’s  hand extended — holding out some tracts to them and a corner of the sign board he was wearing that day.

     As you can see, most of the young people are dressed in black, wear chains; many have tattoos and several body piercings, and are following what is known as the “gutter punk” style of dress and behavior.  We are thankful to be able to reach out to so many young people (not all are “gutter punks”) in downtown Portland.

     Often people will sit and wait on the wall until they can talk with one of us or receive personal prayer for healing.  We believe that this wall will become a place where people will come for healing prayer and that brethren will come and help us pray for healing, salvation, and deliverance for many.

Scott took this photo of Ron preaching while a follower of Krishna walked by. His backpack is filled with books on Krishna Consciousness and he will give one out to a young person and then ask for money to pay for it.  The “devotees of Krishna” have been hanging out around us and they get a good dose of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  Pray for our ministry to them to be effective.

     Our “office” is always open on the streets and no one needs to make an appointment to see us.  We want to be ready for the ones Jesus sends to us, regardless of their needs.  Sometimes the enemy sends his distractions at the same time.  Please pray that we’ll have the physical strength and endurance needed for this work.
