Spring  2005

Dearly Beloved of Our Lord:

May the wonderful mercy, grace, and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be multiplied into your life throughout this coming year!  We are excited about the year to come and are beginning the year with a season of prayer and intercession, as are many brethren throughout our city and region.  May this be a year of awakening and harvest.

A Defining Moment at Pioneer Courthouse Square

We were sitting on a brick bench on the SW Sixth Avenue side of Portland’s Living Room – Pioneer Courthouse Square.  There are two trashcans near us, one is next to us on our left and the other is near the street in front of us to our right.  A young pregnant woman in her twenties comes up to the trashcan on our left and opens the lid and starts digging (“fishing”) in the can.  We thought she was looking for pop cans to turn in and get money.  Finding nothing she goes to the can in front of us and starts “fishing” again.  She pulls out what is left from someone’s lunch and stands at the can and starts eating.  It was a hot summer day in August and Ron was using our digital camera and happened to get some photos.

In one you can see Karen sitting on the brick bench as she “fishes” the trashcan.  In the other photo this young mother-to-be pulls up some food and begins to eat using the top of the trashcan as her table.  She was shaking and open sores surrounded her mouth, which is a sign of meth use.  She was about seven months pregnant with a little girl she had already named.  She lived in a tent under a bridge with the father of her baby.  She had lined up assistance, which would be available as soon as the baby was about to be born.  As we befriended her, prayed with and for her, fed her, and gave her a prayer blanket our hearts were broken even more for this generation of young people in our city, state, and nation.  This young woman is someone’s daughter and her baby girl is someone’s granddaughter.  These younger ones are the main focus of our ministry.  We are privileged to talk with and pray for many in their twenties.

Throughout our times on the streets we have seen an increase of young people on the streets that seem to be involved with meth.  We have the opportunity to talk with many and give them literature.  We have also had the blessing of praying with some so that they can receive healing.  Here are a couple of examples.  We expect to minister to more with this particular drug problem because it is growing.  As we have read about and studied this problem we know that healing prayer is very important because physical damage takes place in the brain of a meth addict.  They also usually need to know the way of repentance, forgiveness, and how to walk in deliverance.  (See Acts 10:38)

During this past year we prayed for a young woman (about 25) whom the Lord saved off meth and a street life-style of drug abuse and sexual filth. Her life has been so transformed by the Lord that the courts have returned two of her children to her custody.  She believes God for the return of the remaining two children and the restoration of her marriage.  She has walls broken down in her life where the enemy comes in like a flood.  We helped her build up the walls with repentance, forgiveness, breaking soul ties, and deliverance from imbedded lies using the truth of God’s Word.    We watched as the Lord washed her with his Word.  We also were blessed to pray for a young man (about 21) whom the Lord saved off meth, sexual immorality, and prostitution.  As we prayed for him we sensed that the Lord is sending him to rescue the lost of his own generation.  May the Lord send him to many to give away what God has freely given him, which is salvation, healing, and deliverance.  May Jesus send each one of us.  May the church come alive!  Awakening!

Thank you for your prayers and support

We have the privilege of being one of a very few couples ministering in the streets of downtown Portland several days a week and you have been a part of it through your prayers and your financial support.  We thank you for every gift, every prayer, and encouraging note.  You may support us financially by giving to us personally, Ron or Karen Rohman.   Or you may give through church @ 24/7, which is a tax-deductible ministry.  Thank you for your prayers and intercession and please continue to pray for us.  We are expecting God’s presence and power to be released in a great way on the streets in the coming year.
