... Walking In The Light ... Discipleship & Fellowship October 2008
Dearly Beloved of Our Lord:
May of Lord’s wonderful mercy, grace, and peace be multiplied to you as you walk as a “follower of Jesus.” Lately the Holy Spirit has been emphasizing 1 John 1:7 in our lives.
But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.
When a brother of sister comes up to us and begins talking we have noticed that there is a change in His presence with us when they are walking in the light. We immediately have fellowship and experience the fruit of the Holy Spirit such as peace, joy, kindness, etc. People walking by notice this and often look over at us. Some make comments which are favorable or hostile depending on whether they are being drawn to the light or they desire to hide in darkness.
One day “Cheryl” came up to us and wanted to ask Ron some questions. As our sister in the Lord she wanted to know how to go about sharing her faith and her walk with Jesus with others, especially with those she worked with downtown. This time of fellowship quickly turned into a time of discipleship and then into a time of prayer. We were walking in the light together so the Holy Spirit could teach us all together, which is what true discipleship is about.
Our times of ministry are dependant upon the Holy Spirit speaking through us and bringing truth to the heart of the one we are fellowshipping with. We spend time and we share our hearts and it is the Holy Spirit who teaches, who counsels, and who heals. Everyone seems to need healing whether it is healing in the mind, the emotions, the spirit, or in the body. Usually it is some combination of these and only the Holy Spirit knows where to bring His healing and His comfort or teaching. He binds up broken hearts and He also leads us into all truth as the Spirit of Truth. As we shared this, Cheryl could understand the importance of listening to what people say, listening to the Holy Spirit, and then being willing to ask if she could pray for them. Hardly anyone will refuse an offer of prayer.
Karen then had an opportunity to share some more with Cheryl, to pray for her to be free of fear, and to encourage her to begin looking for opportunities. We gave her a few samples of some of the literature we use which can help people understand a way to receive Jesus and begin a relationship with Him. We are looking forward to seeing her again soon to hear a testimony of how things are going for her.
Thank You for Your Support
We are very thankful for every person who remembers us in prayer and with financial support during these difficult and uncertain times. Your prayers for us are important and effective because we have experienced a continual increase in ministry over the past several months. Please continue to pray that we are effective and fruitful in bringing the healing and salvation of our Lord Jesus Christ to people in downtown Portland. We have a wonderful opportunity to reach so many different kinds of people as we work on the bus mall and at the MAX light rail stop. We also meet people from many nations, some who are also walking with Jesus. May you be greatly blessed and fruitful in all you do. We send you our love and thanksgiving with this letter. You are in our hearts and in our prayers.
