Intercession and Awakening                           May 2008

Dearly Beloved of Our Lord:

Greetings in the mighty and wonderful name of our Lord, Savior, and King – Jesus!  We are in Pioneer Courthouse Square, Portland’s Living Room, several times a week when the weather permits.  And sometimes we are there even if it does not permit.  We pray and seek the Holy Spirit’s guidance each day and there are times when He tells us to take the short bus ride downtown even if it is raining because He knows what kind of weather we will have in the afternoon.  One day we waited for an hour for the rain and hail to stop.

The last Monday in April was that kind of day.  The drizzle turned to sunshine and we talked and prayed with many people in “the living room” across from the old Pioneer Courthouse at SW 6th and Morrison.  At around 3:15 PM a woman of Blackfoot and Cree background came up to me (Ron) on the corner asking for bus money to get home.  As I gave her a bus ticket, which we carry for just such requests, she began to talk about what a hard day this had been.  When she got to the part about how her daughter had died a year ago on this date from a heroin overdose I brought her to Karen for prayer and comfort.  She sat with Karen receiving prayer, comfort, encouragement, and friendship for over half an hour.

We want to share with you several scriptures which the Holy Spirit is using to motivate and guide us during this Spring and Summer season.  As you read through them we pray that you will be encouraged in your own ministry opportunities and to remember us in your prayers.

Micah 6:8   He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the LORD require of you but to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?”   Each person we meet is important to God and we desire to treat them as He would and we desire to walk as He would walk in each and every situation.  Our witness is sometimes “beyond words” and can be experienced by others in many different ways.  We realize that we are being “watched” when interacting with each one who passes by, or stops to talk, or receive prayer.

Ezekiel 22:30  So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one.”  We are living as missionaries to Portland and the Pacific Northwest as we walk in Intercessory Evangelism.  Everywhere we go we find ourselves “standing in the gap” on behalf of the people we are with, as we desire to bring God’s mercy, grace, and forgiveness in the presence of the Holy Spirit.  We are giving our time, resources, and our very lives for Awakening in our region.

2 Chronicles 7:14-16  “…if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.  Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to prayer made in this place. For now I have chosen and sanctified this house, that My name may be there forever; and My eyes and My heart will be there perpetually.”   We, along with other brethren we are with, are living stones in His temple and our intercession, repentance, humility, and prayers are seen and heard by our Heavenly Father.  We realize that the nation in which we live is in deep trouble and that people’s lives are being, or soon will be, greatly shaken.  Many people have many different names for this time but we could call it “redemptive judgment.”

2 Corinthians 11:3, 4 But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. For if he who comes preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or if you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted...”  We desire to bring a clear and simple message of the Kingdom of God and the importance of embracing the work of the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Matthew 9:36 – 38 “But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd.  Then He said to His disciples, ‘The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.’”

Matthew 10:7, 8 And as you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ 8Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.”   We have clear direction from Jesus to make known His kingdom through the power and presence of the Holy Spirit.  His kingdom comes with both Word and Power and He is interested in a harvest. (1 Thess. 1:5) We pray for laborers for His harvest in which we also labor.

Psalm 91:1 He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”  We want to walk in a close, intimate relationship with God at all times and in every situation.  He has called us to “dwell” in His secret place with Him so that we can “abide” under and in His protection and provision at all times.  We are not called to “visit” but to “dwell” which speaks of a permanent habitation and not a temporary visitation.

Isaiah 30:15b In quietness and confidence shall be your strength...”   We desire to quietly put all our confidence in the presence of the Holy Spirit who reveals Jesus Christ as Lord, savior, and King.  We are now in our Heavenly Father’s forever family and He is using our lives to call out to our lost and missing brothers and sisters so that His children might come home to Him.

Thank You for Your Prayers & Support

We hope that these scriptures help you to know why we live as missionaries and how we are being motivated by the Holy Spirit.  May they stir up your desire to work in His harvest.  We believe it is important to be personally available to pray with people and to share the good news.  So many people seem to desire to talk and need someone to listen.  Your encouragement and the support you provide for us enable us to be personally available to all who come to us sincerely seeking His presence.  church @ 24/7 is an intercessory evangelism ministry of Prince of Peace Ministries and gifts are tax-deductible.  Some friends encourage us with personal gifts to Ron or Karen Rohman which are not tax-deductible but greatly welcomed.  Thank you so much for your prayers, provision, and encouragement.  We send you our love and prayers with this letter.
