Dearly Beloved of Our Lord:
Greetings in the mighty name of Jesus Christ our Lord, Savior, and King! We just returned from a short time of camping in the mountains with three children and four grandchildren while Portland experienced three days of triple digit heat. We camped right next to a river so we could swim, fish, and hike. The beauty of our Lord’s creation moved in our hearts as we spent time with family. We returned refreshed and very thankful.
Behold the Harvest Field!

Three young girls came in on the MAX. They had a sign that said, “Free Hugs”. They said they were fourteen and fifteen. One of them with bright blue and purple hair with a rainbow on her cheek said she did not go to school but is being home schooled. They had spent the evening before coloring and styling their hair. They seemed very sweet and innocent. A group of PSU students from Saudi Arabia were walking by and we talked with them briefly. They said that there are now about five hundred Saudi students at PSU. They read the girls’ sign and said to one another, “Why not?” They all took turns getting their free hugs which they would never do in Saudi Arabia where you can not even see women or touch them while in public.
The Sign in the window of the Wells Fargo Bank across the street reads:
“With you when life delivers a new perspective”
Karen’s Testimony ~ A young woman came by who had lost her job and was homeless and is now living in a woman’s shelter. Stephen and I talked with her about how to sign up for low income housing. I had talked to her before, prayed for her, and had given a free meal ticket to the “Sisters of the Road” café in downtown NW Portland.

While I was talking to her about the Lord, a young man came by. He wanted some money for some food. I told him that I did not give out money because many young people out here will use it on drugs. He said that he did not do drugs any more and was on methadone. (Methadone is also a very powerful drug given to heroin addicts to help people stop injecting heroin.) I talked to him about the Lord. He picked up a gospel of John and started reading it and took it with him. The young woman who I was talking with gave him the free meal ticket. He said the restaurant was closed (which it wasn’t) so he continued to ask for money for a burger. The young woman, who herself is streetwise, said he only wants the money for drugs and then she left. The young man was angry at the statement. I told him that she knows who you are. At the same time three young boys came by and were trying to sell him some drugs. I told him that if he was really hungry he had 45 minutes to get to the “Sisters of the Road” café before it closed. He went off continuing to ask for money.
Thank You for Your Prayers and Support!
We are very thankful for all your prayers, encouragement and support. We pray that these short testimonies with photos, taken by Stephen D., are an encouragement to you as you labor in our Lord’s harvest field. He is definitely “with us as life delivers a new perspective.” It is a great joy for us to be able to bring the good news of His kingdom to the hearts of each and every person we meet regardless of their age, nationality, or condition in life’s journey. Please “walk with us” in any way you can, including joining us some day in Portland’s Living Room – Pioneer Courthouse Square.
