April 2010

Dearly Beloved of Our Lord:

Greetings in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world – our Lord, Savior, and King!  We are so thankful that Jesus gave His life for us as the Passover Lamb of God and three days later He was seen alive from the dead.  The cross reveals the power of God’s love and the empty tomb reveals the power of His eternal Kingdom!  He is our King and we want to love and serve Him, with thanksgiving, in everything we do.

We thank Him for His presence and for health and strength so that we are able to walk with Him each day.  We thank Him for you, our friends and brethren, who pray for us and encourage us in our times of plenty and blessing as well as in our times of trials and need.  We are thankful for your intercession as we have experienced financial difficulties, physical health challenges, and deep needs in our hearts, and in the lives of members of our family.  We are also thankful for your prayer support as we labor in the harvest.

We especially want to thank our Lord for his healing presence and touch on our oldest son Matthew as he has gone through these many months of physical pain and the chemotherapy treatment for lymphoma cancer which afflicted his body.  The latest CT scan has shown his body to be free of all tumors and cancer but with some scar tissue from the chemo treatments.  In this we greatly rejoice and now pray for his strength to return to his body, which could take some time.

We, and Matt’s family, are also very, very thankful for all who have prayed for him, encouraged him, and helped him financially during these very difficult months.  Thank you for your notes of counsel and encouragement.  And thank you for your financial gifts for him and his family.  But the battle is not over so please continue to pray for him, his family, and their business: Efficiency Heating and Cooling (hvacoregon.com/  – 503-698-5588).  As we write Matthew does not need more treatment but is working on regaining his strength and working in his business.  He will get another follow-up scan in June.

We have some other prayer requests.  In late March our niece Elaine and her two children found her husband had passed away in his sleep.  He was in his mid-forties so this has been quite a shock for the family.  Marty has been struggling with his sinuses and his right eye may need a cornea transplant.  His illnesses have limited his ability to come into Portland from St. Helens and it may be some time before he is completely able to minister throughout the day at the Square.  Morris has also been ill with heart and blood pressure issues and has not been able to be at the Square as often as in the past.  We thank you for your prayers on their behalf.

Springtime has begun and the daylight is getting longer.  This is such a beautiful time of the year as all the various flowers come into bloom and the trees bud out.  We rejoice, and give Him thanks, for the wonderful and challenging ministry our Lord has given us in downtown Portland.  We get to meet so many brethren and various people each time we are at the Square, Portland’s living room.  We meet people from so many different walks of life and in so many various circumstances during these difficult and challenging days.  Thank you, our brethren and friends, for making so much of this possible through your prayers and support.  May you enjoy a most blessed and fruitful springtime as you walk day-by-day with our Lord.

Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. ~Romans 15:13
